Gas Treat® H2S gas scavengers remove hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from process systems to improve safety, protect equipment and meet sales specifications.
For safe, effective removal of H2S in ranges from 1-to-200 pounds per day, Gas Treat® scavengers are available in a variety of formulations for complete and partial H2S removal in oil- and water-soluble applications. Where scavenger-induced calcium carbonate scaling is a problem, Gas Treat® 164 provides an effective scale inhibitor.

Hydrogen sulfide gas is very corrosive to well and surface equipment, and to meet natural gas sales specifications it is restricted to very low levels (less than 4 ppm). H2S gas is also present in sour crude, produced water and condensates, and can be a hazard in the headspace of tanks that contain these liquids.
Gas Treat® H2S scavengers meet specific operational objectives with the ability to provide either total or partial sour gas removal:
Batch process treatment removes all H2S as the sour gas bubbles up through the CTI scavenger solution contained in a tower.
Continuous injection treatment removes only the amount of H2S required to meet specifications by injecting CTI scavenger into a flow line, pipeline, or gas gathering system
Continuous injection is the more common application. Its effectiveness is affected by several factors, including gas temperature, velocity, amount of liquids in the line, retention time available to remove the H2S and the ability to adequately inject the scavenger into the gas stream.
The scavenger is injected continuously using an injection atomizer to provide a good spray pattern into the gas stream. Use of a pulsation dampener between the injection pump and the atomizer ensures a constant flow of chemical to the system.
With good temperature and atomization, H2S can often be removed from the system in as little as 15 seconds.
H2S and Scale Control
Gas Treat® 164 is a field-proven means of increasing production capacity when scavenger-related scale formation restricts production and gathering systems.
Due to the nature of some H2S scavenger chemistries, a co-product of the scavenging reaction is an amine component that can raise the pH of water in the produced gas stream. If a calcium carbonate scaling potential exists in the water, it could be enhanced by the increased pH of the fluid.
To prevent the occurrence of unwanted scale formation, Gas Treat® 164 includes an additive package specifically formulated to control calcium carbonate scale in severely scaling systems where an H2S scavenger is required.
